This is your semi-annual (autumn) It's Aliiive! post! Or in other words, this comm may be quiet, but it aten't dead. Please continue to claim tables, post fanworks, or drop claims here to your heart's content.

Also in the light of the new series, I shall re-promote this presently, so if you are new, feel free to use either this post or the general sticky to ask any questions you may have.

Anyone may claim a table at any point, or drop an old one (and pick up a new one if you wish) - just let me know at the Claims Post. If you've claimed one and are nearing the first fanwork deadline, again, just let me know at the Claims Post and I'll give you an extension.

If you have any questions about the community or if you would like to suggest a theme or prompts for a table, feel free to ask/donate them here or at the sticky post.

This is just the semi-annual update to assure everyone that this comm is still live (and so is its mod).

Feel free to claim a table at any point, or drop an old one (and pick up a new one if you wish) - just let me know at the Claims Post. If you've claimed one and are nearing the first fanwork deadline, again, just let me know at the Claims Post and I'll give you an extension.

If you have any questions about the community or if you would like to suggest a theme or prompts for a table, feel free to ask/donate them here or at the sticky post.

In the meantime, happy creating!

It finally occurred to me that I mirrored this community over here in January (and pimped it) and never made a 'hello' type post, although there is a useful sticky post.

Which is to say: hello and welcome to [community profile] who_allsorts! ([livejournal.com profile] dw_allsorts on LJ, which is still open for those who prefer LJ). All previous content has been backed up here, but this comm is definitely live, and not an archive. Anyone who wants to is always welcome to claim a table and create stuff. The more the merrier!

The purpose of this comm is primarily to have fun, spark creativity, and cause more Doctor Who fanworks to exist. The basic idea is for a traditional LJ-style prompt tables community, but with a more accessible, laid-back approach to claims - our tables vary from 3 to 20 prompts and can be used as inspiration for any kind of fanworks. You can claim a character, pairing, crossover, spin-off, era, season, episode, enemy or theme from any part of the Doctor Who universe, or other similar, & duplicate claims are fine, so you should have plenty of options. You can also drop a claim whenever you wish (and pick up a new one), or revive a long-abandoned set. You can have up to two claims at a time, and if you need to extend your first fill deadline, just let me know at the Claims Post.

If you have any questions or other comments, please feel free to ask here, at the sticky, or you can PM me if you prefer.

If you have any suggestions for prompt tables, you can comment to the sticky at any time (or to this post).

How are people who have current claims progressing? Still working on prompts? Stuck for ideas? Having trouble choosing a table? Or like me, finding your current prompt set too pretty to spoil by writing for it? (I know, I know, it's a terrible excuse... *eyes approaching deadline sheepishly*)

Claim your table here, using the following template:

Username: (lj/dw name, AO3 account name, Tumblr name, wherever you're posting the fanworks)
Claim: (Character/Era/Pairing/Theme - e.g. Amy Pond, Four/Romana II/Era - First Doctor/AUs)
Table: (e.g. 12 Prompts - Flowers; 3 Prompts - Actions)
Link to table masterpost: (Optional, but must be public if included)

Template code:

Example claim:
Username: [personal profile] thisbluespirit
Claim: Ben Jackson/Polly Wright
Table: 12 Prompts - Flowers
Link to table masterpost: http://dw-allsorts.livejournal.com/1942.html

Anyone can claim any character/pairing/era/theme, even if it's already been claimed. As tables are fairly small, you can make up to two claims at any one time. You can make further claims once you have completed a table, and you can reclaim the same table/claim.

You can claim any (canon) character (minor, major, villain, companion, Doctor, whatever), an alien race/type of monster, or a pairing, or one episode/serial, or a season, or the whole of a specific spin-off series or era (or character/pairing etc. from that spin-off). (Eras for the comm's purposes are solely divided by Doctor, not by producer/showrunner.) All corners of the Whoniverse are eligible. You can also claim a crossover, or crossover pairing (though bear in mind that this is a Doctor Who related challenge, so the emphasis on both fandoms should be equal, or weighted towards Doctor Who). You can also claim a theme (i.e. Minor Characters, Villains, Favourite Pairings, Historicals, Crossovers, AUs, a specific trope/kink etc.). So you would be able to use any characters/pairings from any part of the Whoniverse, but all your fills would have to conform to your chosen theme. (You can also claim a character/pairing etc. + theme if you wish.) If you're unsure about the eligibility of your claim, please just ask here or at the sticky post.

There are no deadlines for completing the tables, but you must complete at least one prompt fill in less than three months of signing up, otherwise your claim will be dropped from the masterlist as inactive. You can choose to drop a claim (or pick one back up) at any time by commenting to this post.

When you complete a table, you will receive a banner.

This is a fanworks challenge comm for Doctor Who, with one difference, in that the prompt tables vary from only 3 to 20 prompts. One thing I learned doing other challenges is that 100 is a lot. So is 50, and even 30. For those who want to have a try at a prompt table, but are daunted by the number of fanworks involved, then this comm is for you!

Of course, if you like tackling lots of prompts, there's nothing to stop you working your way through as many of the prompt tables as you wish, though you may not claim more than two tables at any one time.

3-Prompt Tables
6-Prompt Tables
9-Prompt Tables
12-Prompt Tables
15-Prompt Tables
20-Prompt Tables

You are welcome to use the prompt tables for Doctor Who related fic, fanart, icons, graphics, fanmixes, vids or other fanworks. Simply produce one work in any medium per prompt and then post or link it here at the comm.

Go to the Claims Post to claim a table, character/era/pairing/theme, and get started. There will be no limits as to who can claim which pairing or character. No one ever interprets a prompt in the same way. There are no deadlines for completion of tables, but you must post at least one prompt fill within three months of signing up, or your claim will be considered inactive and removed from the masterlist.

The masterlist on the claims post will enable you to see what other people have already claimed (for interest and/or if you would prefer to claim a unique topic).

To drop your claim, please comment to the Claims Post.

If you have any questions, please comment to this post, or pm a mod. If you would like to suggest or submit a table, please leave a comment with your theme or prompts in this post.

1. There has been a small change to the rules! You can now, if you choose, also claim a theme instead of a character/pairing/era etc.). I hope this will liven up and widen the options while still keeping [livejournal.com profile] dw_allsorts as a reasonably narrow mini-prompt-table claims comm! Themes might be a variety of things - a trope, e.g "Hurt/Comfort"/ "Alternate Universe" or a type of character, e.g. "Villains" or "Minor Characters", or something else like "Missing Scenes," "Crossovers," "Historicals," or "Favourite Pairings". It's also fine to use the addition of a Theme to make your claim even more specific - e.g. Era/Character/Pairing + Theme. If you're unsure about your idea, just ask here, at the sticky, or at the Claims Post.

2. If you have any suggestions for prompt tables, please comment here or over at the suggestion post. You will be credited for your efforts (unless you would prefer not to be). More tables have been added recently, for your inspiration!

3. I've had to switch the AO3 Collection to moderated for the moment - so, please don't be alarmed if you post there and the collection doesn't show up immediately on your fic. I am keeping an eye on the page, but do poke me to remind me at any time if I'm slow to respond! (This doesn't in any way prevent or delay your fic from being posted to AO3; it merely affects when it shows in the collection. I've done this because we seemed to be getting quite a lot of random unrelated works and bookmarks posted in it of late.)

* Hello, all! This is a note from your [livejournal.com profile] dw_allsorts mod, firstly to say that in order to make sure I don't miss anybody who's due a banner, I have now added a "!claim completed" tag to the comm. When you post your last entry for a claim, please select the tag & it should make doubly certain that I don't miss anyone deserving a banner. (If I still manage to miss you, post a comment to the sticky and poke me. I'll thank you, I promise.)

* Also, I have (from time to time) added in new tables & will do some more soon. If anybody would like to suggest some prompt tables, please do so in the comments here. Now is your chance! We're not desperately in need, so no need to worry if not - I merely thought it might be nice to get some variation, as the rest are all mine.

Prompts tables come in sets of 3, 6, 9, 12, 15 or 20, and do try not to duplicate too many existing prompts - the tables are small and people will work through several of them.

Leave a comment as follows:
Table name: (e.g. 3 Prompts - Fabrics)
Prompts (numbered):

When I'm next updating the comm, I shall add in any new prompt tables & credit you (unless you specify if you'd rather I didn't).

* And most importantly - thanks for playing! Remember if you've started a claim, there's no deadline for finishing & you can always come back and post a new fanwork whenever you're ready. I'm just thrilled that in these days of LJ's decline, we're still up and running after one and a half years. Back when I started, I decided I would count this comm as a success if anyone signed up and if we inspired at least one fanwork. And according to the tags, comm members have created 63 fics, 7 artworks, 2 fanmixes, 5 icon sets, and 1 fanvid. You're all awesome - please continue as you are!

A reminder

Since there were a lot of people who signed up when the comm started (\o/) this is a note to say that most of those people have a deadline for posting a first fanwork in mid-June.

So, just a reminder that it's time to post a fanwork or comment here (or at the original claims post) to let your mod know if want to keep or drop your claim - or choose a new one! (And that's all - no pressure to post anything, just wave to show you're still alive and willing to play. Rest assured, I'm not rushing off to delete anyone from the list yet.)
