Title: "Don't Turn on the Light"
Rating: G
Word Count/Size/Length: 300
Claim: Eleventh Doctor Era (6 prompts - Murder Mystery table)
Prompt: #06 - Suspect
Notes/Warnings: Googled the prompt and the first thing that came up was “If you suspect a gas leak, do not turn on an electric light!” so I rolled with it.
Summary: “If you suspect a gas leak, do not turn on an electric light!”
Characters disclaimed.
“No, no, no!”
She froze instantly; the panic in the Doctor’s voice forcing her hand back. She was inches from the light switch and it frightened him.
“But-” she began.
“It’s an electric light,” The Doctor explained.
She, a little slow on the uptake, nodded, “Yes, and it’s getting dark,”
The Doctor sighed. He possibly mumbled to himself about how stupid humans were. “Do not turn on the light,” he said slowly.
“Okay,” she shrugged, still not really getting it. “And what exactly are you doing down there?”
The Doctor went back under the sideboard, which muffled his response. She could hear the sonic-screwdriver buzzing and the Doctor muttering and tutting.
The Doctor suddenly stood up. “I think,” he began, “that’ll do.”
“What’ll do?”
The Doctor simply nodded.
“You’re not impressing me,” she smirked, folding her arms.
“Oh, I think you’ll find,” The Doctor also smirked, “That I just stopped a potential dangerous amount of alien gas leaking in through this pipe,” he hit the sideboard, “Once again saving the people of this miserable planet, and you’re not even impressed. Urgh! Don’t know why I bother!”
“You did what?”
“Saved the world!”
“For all I know you just went under there and buzzed your screwdriver for a bit. I didn’t even smell gas.”
“Alien gas!” the Doctor argued, grinning.
She hit his arm. “See!” she exclaimed, thinking he was playing her.
“Well, did you think I told you not to put the light on?”
“If you suspect a gas leak, do not turn on an electric light!”
The Doctor smiled brightly. He pointed at her. “Yes!” he almost shouted. “Yes, yes, yes!”
“I’m still not-”
Before she could finish the Doctor grabbed her arm and ran back to the TARDIS. One day he’ll find a human that is easily pleased.
