Mind-control is very much a fine art. It is also an exact science. Everyone responds to it in a different way. And one person's reaction can vary based on the situation.

Ideally, you want to catch your victim by surprise. That makes it easier to slice past any walls they have in place. You can cut them down swiftly, before they have a chance to stop you.

One quick mental sword-thrust to debilitate them. That's a good start. Then you can work more at leisure, carving away at their resistance. Fine-tuning their wills, until you have what you want: Someone who will do whatever you require.

It can be difficult, if you've never done it before. A mind can be so, so delicate. Precision is an absolute must, or you'll do more harm to your subject than you might intend. You want a finely-honed edge, not a cudgel.

Of course, if you share memories with someone who has prior experience, then you're in a dream spot. They know how to take over someone's mind; therefore, you can do the same. Easy as anything, really. Like knowing how to duel, without ever having handled a blade.
