Title: 'Page-Turner'
Rating: G
Word Count: 279
Claim: The Eleventh Doctor (12 Prompts: Poetry Randomizer)
Prompt: #6: The Page Opens
Notes/Warnings: Takes place near the end of 'The Big Bang'
Summary: At last, he slams the book shut between his palms, growling a curse. Squeezes the covers together tightly, until his knuckles ache from the force he's exerting.
The diary rests heavily in his hands as he waits for her to retrieve it.
It is crammed beyond what should have been ordinary capacity for a book of its size. Its weightiness comes from additional pages pasted anywhere that they can fit...various objects small enough to be wedged in between...
And from the heft of Temptation itself. Ohh, that temptation...it's a powerful force. It calls to him, begging him to take just one peek.
Open me...read me...
One peek won't do any harm...
She'll never know the difference...
But she'd know. He doesn't even know her that well yet, but he knows that much. She'd know that he'd taken even a brief glimpse, as though the book came with its own security system. Perhaps it does; he wouldn't be the least bit surprised.
Several pages are dog-eared; entries that are particularly memorable to this book's owner, for whatever reason. He wonders what the reason might be.
God, his hands itch to open those blue covers. Just a glance, to try to understand who this remarkable woman is, what she is to him.
Almost to spite himself, he fans through, letting the pages flip too quickly for him to see what they contain. Does it again and again, teasing himself every bit as much as she does with his own frustrating lack of knowledge.
At last, he slams the book shut between his palms, growling a curse. Squeezes the covers together tightly, until his knuckles ache from the force he's exerting.
Whoever River Song is, she trusts him implicitly. He might as well earn that trust. Starting now.
The diary stays closed until it's safe in her hands again.
