Fic: Disembodied

Title: 'Disembodied'
Rating: G
Word Count: 278
Claim: Eleventh Doctor Era; 6 Prompts--Proverbs & Phrases
Prompt: #6--Safety in numbers
Notes/Warnings: None
Summary: "Why do I get stuck with a disembodied voice for company," he wondered bitterly.
"Brilliant," Rory muttered under his breath.
Somewhere amid the slightly-more-insane-than-usual Daleks, Amy and the Doctor were wandering. Together, more than likely; that seemed to be the norm for the two of them. Whereas he had wound up isolated. And alone. Well, sort of alone, at any rate.
"Why do I get stuck with a disembodied voice for company," he wondered bitterly.
Oswin's voice came back to him over the PA system. "Don't knock disembodied voices, sweetheart," she warned him. "Disembodied company is better than no company at all. Besides, I'm not disembodied. I'm very much embodied! You should see me; I'm cute."
And the woman I love is drop-dead gorgeous, Rory wanted to fire back. But Oswin had a valid point. Right now, he'd take any company, so long as it wasn't a Dalek. Especially so long as it wasn't an insane Dalek.
Not that he could say with any honesty that he could tell the difference between a Dalek that was insane and one that was proper sane. The line separating the two was probably gossamer-thin. Either way, he'd take anybody at all over a psychotic pepper-pot.
Well...perhaps not Amy in her current surly I-hate-Rory's-guts mood. There, he almost thought he'd be willing to face more Dal--
"Oi! Beaky! Are you listening to me," a decidedly irritated voice called through the speaker.
"I'm sure you're very attractive," Rory finally responded, aiming to be diplomatic. "And I'm glad I have you to talk to. Thank you."
He was sure that he could distinctly hear a smug note. "You're welcome, Nina."
Rory sighed, rolling his eyes in dismayed resignation. What he wouldn't give to be called Mister Pond again.
